The timing of when to send out custom wedding invitations to guests is a crucial element in your wedding planning journey. It’s a question that often arises during consultations, and rightfully so! This seemingly simple inquiry carries a pivotal role for communicating your wedding day details, but also for guest participation, too. Finding that sweet spot for sending your custom invitation suite makes ALL the difference when it comes to guest responses and attendance.
From experience, sending wedding invitations too early often results in guests setting their invitation aside only to forget about it. Contrary, mailing them too close to your wedding runs the risk of loved ones not being able to attend. They may struggle to secure flights, book accommodations, and even request time off from work, leading to unfortunate declines. Mailing invitations at the perfect time allows guests to respond promptly, while being able to plan with ease.
The general rule of thumb is to mail your custom wedding invitations 8-10 weeks before the respond by date. If you’re hosting a destination wedding, mail them 12 weeks prior to your rsvp by date.
Example wedding date: August 31, 2024
RSVP deadline: July 31, 2024
Mail invitations between May 23 and June 5, 2024 (May 8th if it’s a destination wedding)
