WHAT’S AN INSERT CARD?

Invitation inserts (also referred to as enclosures or details cards) are extra cards you include in your wedding invitation suite. Remember, your main invitation should only include your ceremony information. An insert card (or two) is a great way to communicate any additional information to your guests.

DO I NEED AN INSERT CARD?

Yes. The total number of insert cards is dependent on a few factors. If your reception is being held at a different location than the ceremony, you’ll need to inform guests this. You’ll also want to communicate hotel room block information, as well wedding website. Most couples will need a minimum of one insert card in addition to their main invitation.

INFORMATION TO INCLUDE

The amount of information you include on your insert card(s) is totally up to you. Some couples prefer to have everything written out on multiple cards for a formal look, while others include a small insert to direct guests to visit their wedding website for more information. Insert cards typically include the following wedding particulars:

  • Reception info and start time Your main invitation will outline the details for your wedding ceremony. If the reception will be held at a different location than the ceremony, you’ll need to share where and when the party will take place.

  • Hotel accommodations– Including hotel room block information is especially important to include when you have many out-of-town guests. Don’t forget to share the hotel’s phone number and/or url, reserve by date, and group code or name to reference at booking.

  • Wedding Website– If your wedding website address is long, consider shortening it by purchasing a custom URL or using a service such as, bitly to make the address easy to read and remember. Plus, it looks much more aesthetically pleasing.

  • Weekend Itinerary– This card is perfect for those couples who are hosting a wedding weekend or destination wedding. Think welcome party, after party, farewell brunch or barbecue!

  • Attire– While attire typically is included on the main invitation, you can also reiterate attire on the details card.

  • Adults-Only Reception– You have a couple of ways to inform loved ones that your wedding will be an adults-only affair. The first putting the phrase “adults only reception to follow” on the main invitation or including a line on your details card under the reception details.
